Moon SignsIn a previous blog post, we discussed how there are 13 Full Moons each year, and that, in an ideal world, women would bleed on the New Moon and ovulate on the Full Moon. We also discussed how to advantage of each phase of the moon to best align yourself with the Moon’s energies. There is one more aspect to this that is important, however: the moon’s sign.

While you are all probably familiar with your Sun sign (the sign you were born under – I was born on the cusp of Virgo-Libra and thus embody traits of both Sun suns), you may be less familiar with your Moon sign. Whereas the Sun sign changes about once a month the Moon sign changes every 2 ½ days. In astrology, your Sun sign is supposed to represent the “outer” you: who you present yourself as to the world. Your moon sign, on the other hand, represents your inner world: your feelings, habits, and instincts – who you are on the inside. As the Divine Feminine is more connected with the Moon than the Sun, I urge you to discover your Moon sign as it can provide insights that your Sun sign cannot. If you Google Moon sign calculator, you’ll get a variety of options. Here is a free one that I like: http://www.lunarium.co.uk/moonsign/calculator.jsp.

Once you discover your moon sign, you need to figure out what it means. The Sun signs and Moon signs are generally the same in terms of their meaning, so you’ll need to figure out how they work best together for you. There are a lot of very good books out there that discuss sun and moon signs, so I’ll just give you the highlights below. In future blogs, we’ll discuss more about how the moon signs change and what that means for you, but for now let’s just focus on your birth Moon sign.

Aries – If you are born under the moon sign of Aries, you may be a bit impulsive and impatient. Aries is a fire sign, so you are likely also a very passionate person and may find yourself “blowing your top” too often. You are not one to keep your emotions to yourself, which can be healthy, just be careful of other’s feelings when you are expressing yourself. On the plus side, as a fire sign, your passion in the bedroom should make for a fun, sensual experience. J

Taurus – Taureans are very practical people. You are patient and carefully deliberate any decisions before making them. You may find that these traits can get you into trouble though as everyone relies on you to get things done. Be mindful of your time and your own needs. You are a rock, a foundation of strength, but remember to keep some of that for yourself.

Gemini – Geminis are the quintessential multi-taskers. You are flexible, adaptable, and have a wide variety of interests. Unfortunately, this can make you appear to have ADHD at times because you have a hard time focusing on any one thing for too long. Although it may be hard for your to concentrate, you would likely benefit from a regular meditation practice. It will help keep you grounded and centered and keep you from feeling so scattered.

Cancer – Cancers tend to be very emotional people, but unlike those born under Aries, those both under Cancer tend to hide their emotions. You need to find a few people to open up to, though. You thrive in conditions where you feel secure and protected and you’ll likely need not only a safe space, but safe people upon which you can rely. When you do feel safe, you soar – you are insightful and exhibit a great deal of care and concern for your loved ones. You owe it to yourself to let them know how much they mean to you so that you can feel their love for you in return.

Leo – Leos are the flamboyant ones of the group. They like to show off and be noticed and they light up any room they walk into. Because of this, their motivation is off the charts and they tend to succeed at whatever they put their minds to. The downside is that you might be seen as prideful or egotistic. So be sure to share your creative potential with those around you and let others benefit from your gifts. Fortunately, Leos are also known for their generous and expressive nature, so shine that light on those around you so that all can benefit.

Virgo – Virgos are meticulous and detail-oriented. Once they find something they like to do, they will research it to death to make sure they do it right. The problem, of course, is that whatever the activity is may cease to be fun, so you may find yourself, like Geminis, having trouble sticking to it. Virgos also tend to be highly critical, especially of themselves. So give yourself, and everyone around you, a break. There is no such thing as perfect. Love yourself just as you are. Go out and have a little fun!

Libra – Librans are the peace-makers of the bunch. They excel at communication and are quite empathic. The problem is that they make take on other’s problems as their own and try to solve everyone else’s problems. This can lead to a sense of imbalance, which is troubling for Librans who must achieve balance in their lives to be happy. Remember that it’s okay to say no sometimes and to put yourself first. If you give everything away in an effort to keep the peace, you may wind up suffering for it.

Scorpio – Scorpios are very emotional, but it tends to lie under the surface. You are also a magnetic person and others seem to be drawn to you. Because of this, you may try to keep your emotions in check, while on the inside, you may be experiencing an emotional storm. Remember that it is healthy to express your emotions and it’s okay to feel. For your own sanity, don’t keep things bottled up until you explode. You are a very passionate person and you need to express your feelings.

Sagittarius – Like Geminis, Sagitarrians have a wide variety of interests and have a hard time focusing on any one thing. You may find yourself easy distracted by the “bright, shiny object” syndrome. On the plus side, you excel at a lot of things and are knowledgeable about almost everything. On the negative, you may lack depth in understanding because you tend to skim the surface. While this may work for you in some respects, those in close relationships with you may be frustrated by your inability to stick to anything for very long. You owe it to yourself to explore the depth of possibilities of the things that really matter to you instead of just moving on to the next bright, shiny object.

Capricorn – Capricorns are quite intuitive and are also incredibly well-organized, orderly, and ambitious. They are the planners of the bunch. Just make sure that in all your methods and planning, you don’t forget to check in with your own intuition and the feelings of those around you to get their input. Sometimes you may come off as “mowing over people” to get ahead. Some of those people may be your loved ones, so make sure you get their input before making any major decisions and always check in with yourself first. Just because something looks good on paper doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for you.

Aquarius – Aquarians are the dreams of the group. They are inquisitive and love to explore new things, people, and places. You are creative and inventive and seem to have an innate ability to deal with the “technical stuff.” As such, while you are great at thinking outside the box, you may get frustrated when you have to follow the rules. Like Geminis, it’s important that you try to stay grounded and centered in the midst of your travels.

Pisces – Pisces is a water sign, and water rules emotions. As such, Pisceans are very emotional and empathetic. You are spiritual and intuitive and have an innate ability to understand what other people are experiencing. Like Librans, you may have a tendency to take on other’s problems as your own and you are very sensitive to the environment around you. Because of this, it is very important that you make time for you each day – you need your quiet time of meditation so that you can let go of all of the energetic influences around you; if you miss even one day of meditation, you may quickly become oversensitive and feel like surroundings are just too much to deal with.

So what does all of this mean? By examining both your Sun and Moon signs, you should get a clearer understanding of what your Inner Goddess needs to function on all 4 cylinders. For example, I am a Virgo-Libra on the outside (my Sun sign). This means that I am a detailed-oriented people pleaser who tends to take on too much. On the inside, though, I am a Leo. So I tend to get upset and feel used when no one notices all that I do for them. With the combo of a Libra (people pleaser) Sun sign and Leo (generosity) Moon sign, I really have to work on saying no and not getting too much on my plate. If I don’t make me time a priority, because of my Virgo/Libra-Leo combo, I tend to give everything of myself away and feel resentful about it. I have found that to keep my Inner Goddess happy, I have to flex my “It’s okay to say no” muscles and make sure that I give myself time every day to just relax and check in with myself.

I hope you found this post helpful. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what your Sun and Moon signs are, especially if you are having trouble figuring out what your Sun and Moon sign combination means and how best to take care of your Inner Goddess.
