everyday goddess

Everyday GODDESS: Kelly Schaefer

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

A skilled, “multi-tasking” mother of four, and Registered Nurse, Kelly Schaefer is the owner of Task Complete, a full service Lifestyle Management company. In business today, she upholds a mission of giving families and busy professionals reliable and compassionate assistance so they can meet the demands of everyday life. As CEO and Lifestyle Management coach, it is her purpose to help you manage the minutia of day to day living to live an abundant life, full out and in joy.

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

To me, being an Everyday Goddess means living a full life! As a mother I have witnessed so many other women and mothers in general who restrict themselves of living and enjoying life by giving over all their time to their friends, family and society, saving none for themselves. Being an Everyday Goddess means living a life on your own terms, enjoying the beauty that life and living has to offer and acknowledging that we are that powerful, and we can have it all. We are truly meant to live and enjoy what our life has to offer and not just live through it.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

Holy wow! I want to say I was smacked upside the head just a few years ago. I was living my life by what society says a mother and woman should do, but inside I felt as if “I” was slowly slipping away. All the fire and humor and passion for life was slowly being replaced with “tasks” and “need to dos”. My business was taking over my life and I began losing the joy I used to see in the world, replaced with worry and fear as to whether or not I would be “successful”. What I have learned is that I am and always have been all of these things, and it is THAT which makes us a Goddess. All the bumps and bruises and inner truth and desire all balled up into one perfect feminine.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

I needed to start focusing on what I really wanted. That was a well-balanced life full of love, joy, and of course fun! I stopped listening to other people who told me that in order for my family to be happy I needed to always be there. And in order for my business to thrive I had to have strict hours of operation and let go of all my household responsibilities. But these were things that brought me joy.

I also needed to learn to let go off the strong masculine I had lived in for decades. That masculine served me well for a very long time, but now was a time for growing, changing and evolving into a well-balanced Goddess, using both my innate feminine and masculine energies symbiotically.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

I get to be more of me. I speak up when I need something, I have learned to ask for help and accept it! I have learned that things around me don’t always have to be “perfect”.  I learned that I can be powerful, successful, a mother and a lover all at once, all while embracing my feminine and allowing myself to be open and to receive and not just always use my masculine to get what I need or want. It brings within an inner calm. It creates a space in your life where you actually stop and enjoy and witness all the beauty and abundance around you instead of always forcing forward for the next big accomplishment.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

I love beautiful things! Anything that makes me feel abundant! Fresh flowers and candles in my working space. Taking the time to exercise my body and mind on a regular basis. And the #1 way is dancing!! Something happens to me and spirit works through me when I dance, no holding back, just fluid body to the beat of the music.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

I have 2 actually! It’s so typical to my duality! Athena for her courage, strength, wisdom and belief in justice. And of course Aphrodite for she is the embodiment of beauty and love and for me represents abundance and experiencing daily pleasures. Pleasures of beautiful flowers in a garden or on your desk. Beauty in the clothes we feel most Goddess in. Being purely open and feminine.

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

No matter where you are in life at this moment, you have the power to change it and live a life full love and joy. All you need to do is decide, gain support from others around you and open yourself to receive the richest life imaginable. A life by your own design.

Everyday GODDESS: Jan Deelstra

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

Women’s Empowerment Coach and Transformational Author, Jan Deelstra is the author of Blessings in the Mire: A True Story of Miracles & Recollections; Escaping the Chrysalis: Introduction to Gestalt Techniques for Self-Esteem Transformation; Shadows Attached: Mad Woman Poetry; Chasing Rabbits & I Am…: The Art of Attainment; Inspiring Words For Reflection; The Flying Game and coming soon, Infinite Pie. Her life’s calling is helping others find their wings, connecting everyday life to spirituality.

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

Being an Everyday Goddess means to courageously follow my authentic calling as a transformational author and women’s empowerment coach, consciously leading by example while supporting others’ unfolding wings. It carries a responsibility of being continuously in the awakening process, of honing self-awareness, and of continuing to evolve even in the grip of those who would love to hold captive, the status quo. It implies a constant connection to Mother Earth and to the Universal Source of Creation, and it necessitates an aura of expansion, compassion, cooperation, nonjudment and support for all others, and receptivity to the allowance of energy circulation, while remaining true to my ‘self’. It means embracing the ‘whole’ of beingness –learning to step fully into the light, and to love every facet of who I am as I encourage others to do the same.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

Although my mother was in and out of my life by the time I was around the age of five or six, she was highly intuitive and taught me to be in touch with my intuition, so the seeds to my awakening to the presence of the Divine Feminine, if not innate via DNA, were planted early. But the sprouts were severed following the death of my brother/best friend in 1977. He was 22, and I was 24. His birth was 2 years and 2 days after mine, and we grew up close. He died of what the Medical Examiner determined to be, “unknown, natural causes.” He died in his sleep, like an infant succumbs to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). In this case, it was SADS –Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, something that occurs not infrequently. To lose a close loved-one, confidant, and the one sibling who had been with me through the dark and the light, was unforgiveable. With no reason for such profound loss, I abandoned all belief in a higher power and disowned my former spirituality. “If there was a God or Higher Power,” I reasoned, “my brother would not have been taken for ‘no reason’.”  My slate of beliefs was wiped clean with one fast swipe by the hand of Death. And as blessings are known to surface and blossom from seeds of despair, it was the place where I began to question everything, and to learn so much about my spirit and spirituality. It was my ‘ground zero.’  And it was the foundation for all I am today.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

Because my father died suddenly when I was only 18 months old, leaving my mother pregnant and with three children she was ill-equipped to support,  my childhood was a duct taped tapestry of fragments pieced together from slivers of several foster homes. I was a child of the fifties, with no consistent male role model outside of black and white television programs where “Father Knows Best.” Having no father, I learned to be ultra-aware of how others operated and take what I could get from a soup of examples. In the end, I let go of a lot of traditional patriarchal values and beliefs in order to learn to own my voice, and to trust myself, as indeed, I quickly learned that I was the only one I could consistently depend on. I was shy, awkward, and terribly curious about life, so I had to learn to own my small voice, and to own my power. That strength came in handy when I became a Teamster truck driver in order to support my three young children following a divorce when I was twenty-three. Somehow I kept my feminine spirit even as I learned to change tires on semi-tractors, and double-clutch the big rigs, and mastered ‘heavy-highway’ equipment. I had to learn to trust myself explicitly when traditional male truckers and their curious and/or insecure loves and wives showed up to take a look at this ‘Mother Trucker’ –this woman who had dared infiltrate the status quo. The bigger truth was that I wasn’t there to get a man. I was there because I had three youngsters to feed, and working in a traditional role as truck driver was the only way I could figure –having no education, how to support my babies on my own. But I consciously clung to my feminine principles throughout the evolution of owning my power, even when laboring physically in the ‘good-old-boy’ arena.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

I am so blessed and lucky! Stepping into my feminine power gave me the inspiration to forgive –myself included, and the courage to trust myself, first and foremost to have my own best answers. It gave me the pluck to drive trucks, to open my first business, to return to school, to teach assertiveness training and self-sufficiency skills, to become a gestalt group facilitator for women while working for the Department of Human Services, to write a dozen self-development books, and to ultimately step into the divine light as a women’s empowerment coach. Most profoundly, stepping into my feminine power was the sacred force which got me through the darkest tunnel as I entered and came out on the other side of the death of my son; it is this divine feminine source which resides within, that allows me to find the blessings in the mire of any event, regardless of how nefarious. It is the force and source of self-forgiveness, and of the emerging growth of my wings.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

My divine feminine toolkit overflows with goddess rituals! From being practiced in the ancient energy art of Feng Shui –which I apply to every area of my environments including my bookshelves, to reading goddess and angel tarot, to living my life by the moon cycles, to writing the books, to smudging, and to keeping the journals, sacred feminine rituals are woven through my life. My mother was a card reader, but only for herself. It never seemed odd to me to communicate with loved ones who have passed over, or to read the messages of the cards before starting out on my day, or to celebrate the seasons and give offering in gratitude. Whether burning healing incense or freeing the energy in a prosperity candle, decorating my various altars with intention, casting spells, clearing spaces, or setting new moon goals, goddess rituals are an integral part of my life that is carried down the line through my daughter and granddaughters.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

Although I feel a kinship with the Buddhist Goddess Kuan Shih Yin, best known as Quan Yin, Goddess of Mercy and Companion, and with Rhiannon (whom my granddaughter is named after) I am mostly drawn to the divine goddess essence. In 1994 I opened Ruby Luna’s Angel Emporium, a small gift shop dedicated to all things goddess and angelic. Books, statues, table-top, wall-art, jewelry, gossamer clothing, music and meditation, ritual wares, and oh-so-much-more were offered; the goddess energy was palpable in that store. Everyday Goddesses gathered from around the globe to practice rituals, share secrets and wares, and to bask in the goddess energies.  I was the neighborhood “Angel Lady” to those who didn't yet realize that I was, and still am, a practicing goddess.

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

My life calling is to share a personal message with women, and that is, you have one purpose while on this Earth: That is to learn to love every facet of who you are. This self-love and forgiveness radiates outward into the ethers and feeds the Universe a serving of divine love that returns to feed and heal the globe and her inhabitants. It is the transformational empowering message that is woven into all my books, in my online courses, in the live group gatherings, and in all of my various levels of women’s empowerment coaching services.  Forgive yourself daily. You are worthy. Shine your brilliant light.  ♥

Everyday GODDESS: Gina Hussar

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

gina hussarGina Hussar is a Brand Stylist and Mind Mastery Expert. A former fashion magazine editor, she combines her love of aesthetics and writing with spiritual discovery to help her clients connect and convert! She is a joy junkie, bliss enthusiast, best-selling author and mom of 3 awesome kiddos!

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

Being am everyday goddess means that you know who you are, you love who you are. You’ve BEEN somewhere and its given you a deep, rich, colorful story to own and to share. Everyday goddesses balance the blessings and opportunities of life with grace and gratitude. We allow ourselves to be led by joy, knowing that when joy comes first, love, wealth, health and abundance are never far behind. And we lift and support other women with a sister-like loyalty!

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

It was VERY sudden for me. I think it was always there, just under the surface, whispering to me to let it out. But it took a rock bottom for me to finally fling the door open and I was in the my mid 30’s at the time. Sometimes you have to hit the floor before those whispers become screams you can no longer ignore. NOW it continues to unfold beautifully and gracefully and I am loving the ongoing journey of self discovery!

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

I had to connect with my spirit as a RULE. It had to become a part of my life. I learned that leading by spirit can completely change every area of your life. Spirit became my most lucrative business strategy. But most importantly I had to get responsible. SO often we are miserable because we haven’t accepted our power. That’s all responsibility is—power! People think of the word “responsibility” and it feels heavy. But it shouldn’t! It should feel empowering! Being responsible means that YOU get to hold the magic wand and make things happen. That was a huge shift for me, in business, in my marriage, my friendships, everywhere!

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

I have learned to process everything in a way that serves me. No more ego storytelling, only truth. I am always looking for the miracle or the message underneath every challenge. You have to dig deep sometimes but its always there. And I always choose the fastest path to peace. Nothing, not even the last word, not even being right, not even being heard, is more important to me than joy and peace.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

I am a big believer that sacred feminine rituals do not have to be anything grandiose. For me, a sacred feminine ritual is anything that makes you feel amazing. That can be a deep meditation by candlelight or a night on the couch with a glass of wine and Oprah. =) I do try to keep a manifestation journal every single day and that is incredibly powerful. I am amazed at what I have been able to attract (and really specific things too!) just be committing to one minute a day of putting the law of attraction in order. One minute a day of focused, positive energy streaming out into the universe. Sounds woo woo, totally works.

I also always check in with myself (at least three times a day) to make sure I am staying in peace. I cannot even put into words how that has changed my life. When YOU can stay in peace no matter what, everyone around you gets inspired to do the same.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

Honestly? I love them all. There are energies to all of them that we could all tap into and embody when we need them. That’s the beauty of it. We have all of these gorgeous, juicy, feminine powers that we can unleash every day, all day, as we need them to work for us.

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

Get responsible. Have an honest conversation with yourself about where YOU can get empowered. Pay attention to what upsets you. It’s a strong message of something you need to change, face or take charge of. And the good news is that you have everything you need to do just that!

Everyday GODDESS: Debra Oakland

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

Debra-Close-upOver a short 6 years Debra lost her 21 year old son, her baby girl in the 8th month of pregnancy, both brothers to AIDS and her father to prostate cancer. Debra began her life altering path, becoming a writer, courage advocate and joyful experiencer. She now writes, speaks and works with Universal Laws & Principles of Love that assist others to live courageously from the inside out

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

Connecting to the Divine aspects of Love & Light within myself on a daily basis is what brings out the Everyday Goddess in me. Women are coming together to assist in a massive transformational shift on the planet. We are connecting to the heart through the Divine Feminine where there is a re-balancing of masculine/feminine, mind/heart, light/love – which is reflecting out into the world. It is magical and life altering to be part of this paradigm shift. We are energy and how we use our energy matters.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

A gentle unfolding. I came in with a connection to my higher self, aware of many things that I did not notice some people paying attention to. I was sensitive to and picked up on things that did not ring true or authentic. My solar plexus does a somersault when I see or hear things that are not in line with our highest and greatest good as a collective. Love is the objective. When we are in integrity with ourselves and others, life unfolds with it's intended goal of JOY.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

I have found the biggest transformation has been not to be a follower. We are programmed by family, friends and society to fit in. When we try to fit a square peg into a round hole, it doesn't work. Authenticity is critical to our spiritual development. Once I became a young adult I began de-progamming from many old patterns. It feels so good being me without all the outer world influences telling me who I should be. I always say, never ‘should' on anybody! Living from the inside out is the best way to fly and brings such a sense of true inner peace and happiness. One of the quotes on my website is “If you can’t get out of the box people put you in, chew a hole in the corner and crawl out.” That one makes me smile. 🙂 I came to the realization that I wanted to be a full-time writer. I had been writing since I was young but hid it all thinking, “Who would want to read what I have to say?” We all have a voice as unique to us as our stories. The wisdom gained and shared can benefit many people.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

The most important inner gift for me personally is courage. Because of the loss I experienced in those six years with no break to catch my breath, courage became a welcome traveling partner. This courage comes from my Higher Self, my I Am Perfected Presence which I connect with daily – my God/Goddess Source means everything to me. It's who I am when I am not in wrapped in a physical form – my true essence. Expressing that essence of love into the outer world is where the work comes in. We are all challenged throughout our lives and without those challenges we don't grow mentally, physically or spiritually. Gratitude is my daily mantra.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

The first sacred feminine ritual I do in the morning is to meditate. I go deep into this state as I connect in different ways, depending on my mood. Many of these meditations will be included in my upcoming book. One of my favorite scenarios I create in meditation is to imagine myself standing under the most beautiful waterfall – it is otherworldly. The water is slightly cool and refreshes me as rainbow colors of healing light flow through the water over my body. There are birds singing and animals all around in a tropical setting. As I leave the water, I sit and converse with all of Mother Nature and her Kingdoms. It's lovely!I am fortunate to live across the street from one of the most beautiful beaches. I find that sitting quietly in one of the coves, or walking along the water is a meditative ritual as well. Flowers, candles, oils are all delicious as well.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

There are so many, but Maya Angelou is one that resonates with me on a deep soul level. Maya passed recently and will be missed by many in this world, she exemplified courage, love, forgiveness, compassion and all the great qualities of LOVE. She walked her talk daily with authenticity, grace and peace. Women who have a strong belief in themselves with determination to overcome adversity while striving to live their passion and purpose INSPIRE!  Our world is full of amazing women coming together, linked arm in arm in support of the highest and greatest good for all. Thank you Goddesses for being Living Examples!

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

Take your power back from wherever it has been. You are enough, you are loved, you are perfect. Never let anyone take your power away. Be YOU in all your Divine Feminine Beauty and Gorgeousness! Connect to your heart, trust in your heart to guide you, and be the Goddess you came her to be – in full expression. Thank you Mary for inviting me to share this time with you and your readers. I am grateful and blessed to be here with you all.

Everyday GODDESS: Cindy Heath

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

CINDY PHOTO BIO BOOK (2)Cindy is a R. N., [BScN], a past teacher of Nursing for university and college students, a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher, and a mother of six beautiful daughters. She has inspired and healed many over her 25 years as a practitioner in the medical field. Awarded for her ‘caring’ in her nursing practice, Cindy trail-blazes a sacred path that raises the energy vibration inside women’s physical bodies to scientifically manifests beauty, power, healing, magic, and miracles in their daily lives!

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

Being an everyday goddess means I am connected to my highest vibrational energy or the spirit part of who I am. I know that living from this realm connects me to the magnetic energy of the divine universe which brings out the truest essence of my being. It involves knowing the sacred science behind mind, body, and spirit so I can use this energy to manifest beauty, power, healing, inspiration, purpose, and any other desire I intend. These are the magic and miracles or ‘heaven on earth’ we can all manifest into our lives with our goddess power that sits inside our physical bodies waiting to be awakened.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

I feel I have been on a continual awakening or gentle unfolding to the presence of the divine feminine since my arrival on earth— and many life events and circumstances nudge us into further awakening in every moment if we are willing to seek and find the truth of our existence. It was a near-death experience I had in 2010 that lit the fire of awakening inside me to a higher level.  Some energy technologies that I was practicing from my book caused my kundalini energy at the base of the spine to rise and unite me with the energies of the goddess power inside my body.  This process revealed some sage insights and my sacred goddess power to me. It continues to guide, protect, and uplift my daily living.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

I think I have faced a long and arduous journey to understand the secret balance between giving and receiving love. The greatest transformation took place when I began receiving love instead of always giving it. As a nurse, mother of six daughters, wife, and friend to others, I lost the balance between giving and receiving love. Becoming knowledgeable in energy technologies that exist and then applying them to my life helped to nurture a more sacred and divine love for myself.  These technologies revealed other mystical secrets that allowed me to experience my own beauty and to be my own miracle maker.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

A deeper understanding of how powerful I am as an energy being, a clear understanding of my purpose, and how to experience more beauty, peace, bliss, prosperity, and inner knowing to guide my daily life.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

I practice what I call ‘Sacred Sadhana’; a space in my day where I do specific practices that raise my energy vibration to higher levels, I surround my physical body with higher vibrations to further encourage this sacred connection; for example, I wear gemstone jewelry, smudge sacred herbs like sage, cedar, and sweet grass, and recite mantras that contain higher vibrational energy…all of these effortlessly keep me linked into the to divine energies that share miracles with me.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

I feel connected to Lakshmi, the Goddess of Prosperity, Beauty, and Purity. I have always been blessed to see Beauty and receive Prosperity amidst the challenges of life. I have been a spiritual seeker which has kept my living and being pure. I believe I can reach greater opportunities for beauty, prosperity, and purity that involve keeping the balance of honor and love I have for myself over others, since my tendency is to give more than I receive. Lakshmi reminds me to love, care, and purify myself on an energetic level to increase the beauty and prosperity I already experience. My life’s purpose revolves around encouraging other women to do the same. The essence of Lakshmi reminds me to keep up with my ‘sacred sadhana.’

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

I would like women to know that there is a sacred field of energy inside of them that once activated through energy practices, can bring magic power into their own hands. It is a mystical and divine experience many women have not yet known. This power can create every desire women intend, but this energy needs their help to remain at the manifesting level through the dedicated application of energy technologies.   Honor yourself and this power by taking time every day to connect to it so you can use it to create a beautiful life!

Everyday GODDESS: Sherri Nickols

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

SHerri NicholsSherri Nickols is an award-winning author, international teacher/speaker, and women’s empowerment coach. Trained in transformational healing, identity shifting, Chakra Sound Tuning Fork Therapy, and PSYCH-K she is known as a Sparkling Mojo Specialist. She’s an expert in helping women balance their masculine and feminine energies as well as overcome the negative patterns that keep them stuck. Sherri’s business, Unleash Your Inner Sparkle, teaches women how to increase confidence, joy and sensuality while embracing their feminine playful spirit.

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

It means loving boldly, laughing easily and living with lightness. It means expressing yourself with freedom and confidence unabashedly. It means identifying and exploring what makes YOU uniquely feminine because it is different for everyone and then owning it with pride. It means knowing you are enough, just as you are…and committing to share your brilliance and magnificence with the world, no matter what.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

I awoke suddenly when my marriage fell apart in my late 30’s. I had been living primarily in my masculine energy and let’s just say two men in a marriage doesn’t work! My husband at the time sought feminine energy elsewhere and that was actually a huge gift to me. I realized I had lost my core feminine essence. Although I thought I was doing everything right, I was way off balance, and had lost touch with me…so I went on a journey to find and reconnect with my authentic feminine self. It was a roller coaster of highs, lows, excitement, fun, fear and deep expansion – it brought me to where I am today.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

I had to give up the notion that the identity I had created for myself (successful career woman) gave me my value – understanding viscerally that who I am is enough. Let go of being a “rescuer”, when I was honest with myself and looked at the underlying motivation – that rescuing made me feel important and was very ego driven because I didn’t know how to tap into the importance of just being me. And I most definitely had to give up the role of being the man! Letting go of the need to prove my worth through achievements and accomplishments.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

Bar none I would have to say the sheer bliss that is not dependent on anything external like validation from others or incredible accomplishments. This is the bliss experienced by being in direct connection with God when your heart is so soft and expanded every breath of that connection brings tears of unparalleled joy. Being steeped in my heart is the happiest place I’ve been since stepping into my feminine essence.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

My favorite ritual is one I learned from my yoga mentor –I call it the Heart Opener Meditation. I love this exercise because when you drop down into your heart you automatically drop into your feminine – instantly. It’s also quite simple. Sit with your eyes closed and think about all the people in your life – as far back as you can remember – who have been there for you -shown you love and kindness, given you a shoulder to cry on, said something wise and comforting, given you a hug, a smile, their time and feel the gratitude you have for them. Do this for 5 minutes or until tears of appreciation roll down your cheeks. This will make you magnetic to love. 🙂

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

Not mythically speaking – but in today’s world I love Dolly Parton. She’s honest, warm and funny. She exudes feminine charm yet is incredibly strong – you feel it with her presence whether you see her live, hear her interviewed or read her book. She freely expresses herself, owns her talent, is comfortable in her skin and shines her magnificent self for all she’s worth. I admire her ability to let her feminine lead while dancing and singing through life. She simply sparkles!

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

Believe in your sparkling magnificence! Deep down, at the core of your being, you are a beautiful diamond – maybe it’s been buried for a while, maybe it needs to be dusted off, but trust that it’s there! And as you wipe the sludge off your shine, polishing every facet, living in integrity and honoring your truth, you change the trajectory of women everywhere – healing past and future generations of detrimental paradigms and patterns. Being in your feminine is powerful in the most loving way. Embrace it!

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

I believe that an Everyday Goddess is a woman who knows who she is and exudes a quiet confidence. She’s confident in herself and therefore has no need to put others down or engage in negativity and gossip. She believes that there’s enough good in the world to go around for everyone so there’s no need to compete and be greedy. She lovingly takes care of herself. As she replenishes her body, mind and spirit she has more to give to the world around her.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

I was what you might call a ‘late bloomer’ in experiencing this gradual awakening. I am now 52 years old and I spent the majority of my earlier years trying to conform to what I felt others wanted me to be. I just wanted to ‘blend’ and fit in. I was pretty adept at morphing into the person who would fit in with whatever group of people I was with at the moment. Creating a persona to gain the approval of others never felt authentic, and of course it was unsustainable. In the end it left me feeling like a fraud, drained and more out of touch with my true self than ever before. Tamping down my personality and spirit for all those years significantly delayed my journey to discover who I really am, what my gifts are, and how I can live my life by design and not by chance. While I feel a sense of loss and sadness over those lost years, I’ve come to realize that experiencing this delay in self-discovery has only made me even more passionate about living my life fully and authentically. I have learned the fine art of saying “no” to commitments that I don’t want to make. I have little patience for superficial people and a great compassion for those who are struggling to find their true self and voice.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

I am by nature a nurturer. I instinctively want to nurture and cheer others on towards success in their lives. I can clearly see all of the wonderful traits in family and friends and I celebrate them.   The problem was that I rarely gave that gift to myself. As I look back on my life, I realize that not only did I not nurture myself, I was my own worst critic. My self-talk was often harsh and unloving. I would condemn myself in ways that I would NEVER dream of doing to anyone else. Over the years, it has been a slow and methodical process to recognize this self-talk as it was occurring, consciously reframe it into a more loving and generous internal dialog. This conscious effort, along with prayer, created a profound shift in the way I see myself. I have learned to be accepting, tolerant, encouraging and gentle with myself. I’ve also learned how to recognize, celebrate and appreciate my authentic self.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

Self-acceptance, first and foremost. Can you imagine hanging out with someone you really don’t like 24/7? If it’s a person in your life that you feel this way about, you can just stop spending time with them. But what if that person who can never measure up to your unrealistic expectations is yourself? There’s no walking away. Learning to completely love and honor myself was a game changer. By being compassionate to myself, it became easier to be more compassionate and accepting of others. To be truly at peace with yourself is a tremendous blessing.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

I have always been a voracious reader since I was a young girl – books, magazines, anything I could get my hands on. My love of reading opened so many doors for me. I learned about the world, myself, new concepts and others’ opinions through reading books. Reading sparked my imagination and creativity. I could travel the world without ever leaving my home by reading. I am a collector of books and whenever the time eventually comes that I need to cull my collection down to a more manageable number, it’s like “Sophie’s Choice” for me. I just can’t let them go easily!

My nightly ritual is to climb into bed, put my readers on and pull a book from my nightstand. The Bible has been a source of great comfort and wisdom for me. I also love biographies, history, and of course self-help books! J This special time, right before I fall asleep every night, centers and calms me, and lulls me into a peaceful state, ready for sleep.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

I don’t have one. But I can say that I am drawn to other women who are kind and compassionate to others, have a quiet strength, are comfortable in their own skin, and who don’t feel the need to diminish others in order to elevate themselves. These are the women who I strive to surround myself with.

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

Learn to celebrate who you authentically are and be gentle with yourself. You are perfectly PERFECT just as you are.

Everyday GODDESS: Lynda Monk

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

Lynda monkLynda Monk, MSW, RSW, CPCC is the founder of Creative Wellness – where writing, well-being and transformation meet. She regularly speaks, coaches and teaches about the transformational and healing power of expressive writing and journaling for individual and collective well-being. Lynda is the author of Life Source Writing™: A Reflective Journaling Practice for Self-Discovery, Self-Care, Wellness and Creativity. She is the co-author of a forthcoming book (November 2014) called Writing Alone Together: Journaling in a Circle of Women for Creativity, Compassion and Connection.

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

Being am Everyday Goddess means connecting with the power of the Divine Feminine in my daily life. I do this through gratitude practices, self-care, reflective journaling and regular connection with nature and the cycles of Mother Earth. It means connecting with others and myself in sacred, loving and compassionate ways – it means embracing personal leadership and choosing to make a difference in the lives of others. Being an Everyday Goddess connects me with an awareness of the interconnection of all living things, it means believing in Angels, Source energy and a power greater than myself. As an Everyday Goddess, I embrace beauty, peace, sensuality, love and a deep faith that I am always supported by all that is.

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

I was in my twenties when I awakened to the Divine Feminine, as a spiritual path versus a religious doctrine – this really spoke to me. I was raised Catholic and in my late teens I became very frustrated with the patriarchal nature of this religious institution, I chose to explore religious studies and philosophy as part of my university studies, in part searching for a belief and value system that had resonance for me as a woman, as a Goddess. I met a dear friend, Chris Leischner (she was also raised Catholic), who described herself as a Wiccan & Pagan cross – I liked the sounds of that and experienced many rituals with her over the years, including Solstice and Equinox celebrations. She introduced me to books by Starhawk and other women who were leading the way with an understanding of the Goddess within and I felt deeply connected to all that I was learning and experiencing. I have always been part of women’s communities – circles, writing groups, book clubs, and soulful gatherings where we honour in various ways the Divine Feminine and the role female leadership plays in our families, communities and the world.

Now at nearly 45 years of age (I was born on September 11th, 1969 to a woman who could not keep me as her own), as a mother, sister, daughter, adoptee, wife, writer, social worker, life coach and Goddess – I am aware that being an Everyday Goddess is a continual journey of “gentle unfolding” with some radical moments that define who I am along the way (that are less gentle, more abrupt moments and experiences that represent my growth, learning, humility and expansion on this sacred path of embracing the Divine Feminine and conscious living path.)

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

Many roles in my life needed to transform, or evolve, since living authentically requires different shifts (releases, letting go, surrendering, embracing, claiming…new beginnings), at different times. I have left a marriage, moved to an island, shifted in my career, started a business, redefined that business many times, went from dealing with infertility to becoming a mother of two amazing sons, allowed more love in – including self-love (this is the most important aspect of honouring and expressing the Divine Feminine!)

In terms of my business, I had to shift my focus (more than once) to keep listening to the call from within to do something different. This at times, has involved struggle, resistance and fear. For example, after I became a Life Coach, I kept feeling called to make the heart of my business all about helping heart-centered women create transformational writing practices in their lives for self-care, healing and personal growth. But I kept wondering, “Is this is enough, can I really let my coaching business be all about my passion for going to the page to know, grow and care for myself and to help other women do the same in their lives?” I felt like I was leaving my professional path of doing the “serious work” of stress, burnout and trauma management, education and intervention that had marked my career for over a decade as a social worker, trainer and workshop facilitator. I wondered what my colleagues and clients would think about this new focus in my work. Could I be successful making Writing for Wellness the heart of my business? In some ways, I am still answering this question. I am so excited about the path ahead – I feel on fire with desire to create more programs- to publish more, to let writing lead the way in my life and work – for me, this is authentic living – because writing helps me listen within and chart the course that is most true, a course that embraces the Divine Feminine in every way.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

I have felt in touch with my feminine power for a long time. I am deeply aware that this infuses and benefits every part of my life – my marriage, motherhood, health, business, friendships – the whole of my life is sacred and supported by continuing to grow and step into my feminine power. I feel a new wave of transformation coming as I cross the threshold of publishing a book this November called Writing Alone Together: Journaling in a Circle of Women for Creativity, Compassion and Connection – a project inspired by the Divine Feminine and the healing power of words and women’s stories.

Ultimately the greatest gifts I experience are inner peace and an ever-present faith that things are always unfolding as they are meant to. I also know that my dreams and creative pursuits are not the “extras” in life that get attention when there is “time left over” (since none of us seem to have much of that these days!), but rather following the pulse of my desires and creative self-expression are the foundation to embracing the Divine Feminine – this allows me to keep opening, listening, growing and serving from a deeply rooted place.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

Making love with my husband, playing at the beach with our sons, family blessings and our form of prayer, journaling, dancing, singing, writing, collage, visiting art galleries, listening to music, meditating, yoga, attending retreats, facilitating writing and self-care retreats, reading inspirational quotes, surrounding myself with positive, awake women, soulful conversations with friends, taking time for solitude, stillness and silence, slowing down and listening within, sacred self-care, acknowledging the four directions, the elements, the Earth and my connection to all that is.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

My dear friend, Linda Dobson – we have started every email to one another for many years…Dear Goddess of Beauty, or Dear Goddess of Getting Things Done, or….(the title is always unique based on what we see and want for one another at the time) – I am drawn to her due to her strength, intelligence, sense of living fully, to the way she always tries to come home to herself in the midst of a very full life – she has 3 grown children, 7 grandchildren, a busy career/business – and she takes time to travel, connect with friends in meaningful ways, meditate, create beauty in her home, etc. She also knows how to laugh at herself and with others – her caring is real and I honour her as a Goddess in every sense of the word. I am near the age of her oldest daughter, she is the age of my biological mother – we are in different stages of our lives and careers – yet we are the best of friends. The Divine Feminine is the quiet weave of love that connects us together.

I am also drawn to a circle of Goddesses, many of whom I have never met, like yourself, Mary and other women within the community of Goddesses that Linda Joy is cultivating through her work in the world.

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

In my own life and in the journey of supporting other women on their own unique paths, one of the key areas of women’s lives that seem to be perpetually calling for more attention is self-care in mind, body, heart and spirit. As women, we can easily abandon ourselves, our own needs, our instincts, our desires – in service to the needs, desires, demands and expectations of others – even without realizing it. There can be a sense of martyrdom in serving the needs of others, sacrificing ourselves along the way – I have experienced this in my own life at times, as a helping professional, as a wife, mother, daughter, etc. – and I see it as a common challenge for busy, everyday Goddesses.

I invite all women to pause, to reflect and to listen within – whether that is through a reflective journaling practice, meditation, quiet walks in nature, solo retreats or folded into the ordinary moments in daily life – pause, breathe, listen and honour the whispers of wisdom within. Listen to the body – what does it need and want – rest, movement, touch? Listen to the mind – what does it need and want – stimulation, new opportunities, silence? Listen to your heart – what emotional needs do you have – perhaps you long for more love, connection, belonging, acceptance? Listen to your spirit – what part of your unique essence wants to be expressed? How do you honour your connection to all that is – others, the earth, the space beyond it all?

Most of all, remember that you are enough! Happiness is your birthright. You are a bright light and the Divine Feminine wants to shine and manifest itself through each and every one of us. Sometimes, we simply need to get out of the way and allow our greatness…our beauty and wisdom and uniqueness to shine like diamonds in the midst of it all. You are perfect just the way you are. You know what is best. You are never alone. We are all in this life together, alone and together.

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

To me, being an everyday goddess means living fully as your best and most authentic self! Every day living more fully into who you really are. Stepping forward in courage and authenticity to be the unique, flawed and beautiful GIFT that you truly are on this planet. Am everyday goddess treasures that unique and flawed beauty in all people she encounters! That’s what makes her so magnetic and deliciously attractive to all who meet her!

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

Ironically, I was BORN as a Divine Feminine ray of sunshine! Every memory, every story, every picture of me displayed this so clearly! I was a bright and feminine force of nature. Isn’t it so interesting how as kids we often end up repressing our very special uniqueness to be more like what others want us to be? At some point along my journey, I made all of my divine feminine WRONG and shut down that part of me to become a different version of myself that ironically people called the “Ice Princess”.

It wasn’t until I was 37 years old that I had a divine awakening back into my authentic Divine Feminine. And I’ve been cultivating that authentic part of myself, boldly, ever since!

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

Well, the truth is that I transformed massively. So everything that I touched transformed too! My relationships with family and friends, my work, my parenting and certainly my intimate relationship! For me, it was a progression as I became comfortable in my own skin. I felt safest to be fully present in my Divine Feminine first with just my husband and our children. Then as I got more confident, I expanded to my friends and family. The last was to bring my full authentic feminine energy into work (at the time I worked in a corporate environment). Today, every day I teach women how to open to their feminine energy. I still encourage women to take baby steps and make it a progression! Start where you feel the most safe and loved!

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

Oh my, there are so many! Honestly, being ALL of who I am, all the time is the most freeing and delicious experience of life! Since every day I show up as my best and most authentic self, I am unapologetic for who I am every day! Life is a truly magnificent adventure when you see it through this lens!

In my amazing love affair with my husband Paul, my stepping fully into my feminine radiance has allowed him to deeply root himself in his mature masculine presence! There really are no words for how magnificent it is to be with a man who is rooted and immovable in his masculine. He protects me fiercely and clears a path for me to lead me to every goal, wish or dream I have in the world! I am able to live fully in my authentic divine feminine every day as I surrender to Paul’s masculine presence in our intimate relationship! We have created an unshakable love and unleashed passion that exceeds anything either of us every thought was possible to experience in life!!!!

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

My feminine rituals are the things that bring me into my best and most authentic self, they are the things that make me divinely happy and open!! I love to use music, dancing, playing, laughing, being silly, reading, walking outside and gathering with the people I love in the world! With my husband, it’s super easy for me, my ritual is to surrender to him in his presence and delight in his strength, protection, navigation, leadership and ultimate dedication to my every desire!

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

Actually, the Goddesses that I am STRONGLY drawn to today are the Everyday Goddesses that I am blessed to have around me. Like you Mary Pritchard, Lisa Marie Rosati, Linda Joy, Fabienne Fredrickson, Mal Duane, Lorie Marrero, Tatyana Vroman, Sage Robbins and so many other beautiful Everyday Goddesses that I am blessed to surround myself with! Every one of these women is FIERCELY dedicated to being their best and most authentic self every day! Every woman who lives from that place inspires me and draws me in!

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

If there is ONE gift that I can share with you from my personal journey to my Divine Feminine, it’s that femininity is an energy of openness! That’s all it is ladies. It has nothing to do with your hair, your makeup or how you dress. It’s not the “idea” you have in your HEAD. And it’s NOT weakness. Feminine energy is your best and most authentic self stepping forward with courage and vulnerability to BE who you truly are….no matter what the “risk”! That is greatness and it takes tremendous STRENGTH! When you want to journey more into your Divine Feminine just ask yourself ONE question “How open do I feel?” (0-10). Anytime you feel “closed” in protection, withdrawing, punishing, or whatever that energy is for you, that is your masculine. When you feel truly OPEN in your energy, that is your Divine Feminine! You may have fear around opening into your feminine. Based on my journey, I can tell you…..it’s TOTALLY worth it! Be who you really are darling! That’s what we ALL want for you!

Everyday GODDESS: Peggy Nolan

By | Everyday Goddesses | No Comments

Peggy nolanPeggy Nolan is a sacred bad-ass warrior, vanquisher of fear, slayer of doubt and she's determined to be authentically creative. She's a published author, yoga teacher, 2nd degree black belt, wife, mom, and grammie. Peggy loves peanut butter, science fiction, beer, unicorns, dragonflies, the color purple, the beach, traveling, and naps. Peggy lives in her empty nest in Derry, NH with her husband, Richard.

What does being an Everyday Goddess mean to you?

It means so many things but most importantly being am Everyday Goddess means stepping into my true self. It means that I'm comfortable in my own skin and that I've dropped the mask everyone else expects me to wear. I am who I am 😉

At what age did you awaken to the presence of the Divine Feminine and would you describe it as a sudden awakening or a gentle unfolding?

I've had glimpses of the Divine Feminine ever since I was 15 or 16 years old. I had a jolt of awareness one day in French class at just how powerful I was when it came to the opposite sex. Of course that awareness was lost to my teenage self but I never forgot the a-ha moment. Since then, it's been a gentle unfolding, along with one huge cosmic dope slap, as I walk along my own path. The Divine Feminine unveils herself in the right time…always.

What roles in your life had to transform in order for you to live authentically?

The misconceptions I had of being a wife and mom – geez, I did a 180 on both of these. Instead of playing these roles the way we collectively see them and believe them to be, I re-wrote the script and I now play them my way.

What have been some of the greatest inner gifts you’ve experienced since stepping into your feminine power?

Two of the greatest inner gifts have to be awareness of where I am in time and space and creativity. I no longer rush through my days on auto-pilot. There's this subtle (and not so subtle) awareness and mindfulness that allows me take my time, think things through, and notice things I've never seen. And the creativity I've experienced is sometimes mind blowing. Writing and photography are my creative outlets.

Can you share some of your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

The most sacred ritual I want to share is that I make the time to take care of myself – whether it's time to meditate or practice yoga or go to the dojo and practice Muay Thai Kickboxing. I make time for me.

Is there a particular Goddess that you are intimately drawn to and why?

There's no particular Goddess I feel I'm intimately drawn to but I do feel like I'm a little bit Athena, the Goddess of War, a little bit Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, a little bit Princess Diana of Themyscira (also known as Wonder Woman), and a little bit Tinker Bell, who's not really a Goddess but a fairy…and a mischievous one at that!

Is there a personal message that you would like to share with women?

Ladies – take care of yourselves. When you say you don't have time to take care of you what you're really saying is that you don't value yourself enough to put you on your own priority list. You need to be first on your list. You are no good to anyone if your emotional gas tank is empty. Please, take care of you. Start today.
