Goddess of the Hearth and Home
“As Summer turns to Fall, as the Seasons change, come home to me. Go inward to process your past and find your focus for the upcoming season.”
Traits Vesta Embodies:
- Home matters
How to call on Vesta:
Daughter to Titans Kronos and Rhea, sister to Zeus, the King of the Gods, Vesta bargained with Zeus to remain unmarried in return for tending to his home and hearth. As this is what She wanted to do anyway, she happily agreed. So revered in ancient Rome, Vesta’s temple fire was tended to by 12 Vestal Virgins and relit annually. Home altars were common as ancient Romans and Greeks wished for her protection of their most sacred private places – their homes. As Fire was her sacred dwelling place, Vesta can best be reached while in your own home in front of a fire – or stove or oven if that’s all you have.
Prayer to Vesta:
Vesta, Goddess of Hearth and Home
Guard my home, feed my belly
Keep me warm as Fall turns to Winter.
I ask for your protection of me and mine –
Near or far
May we all return safely home.
Goddess bless us!
Tribute to Vesta:
As Vesta was Goddess of the Hearth, where meals were prepared in ancient times, dedicate your meal – especially those prepared in your home – to Vesta. Give Her thanks for the food in your belly and the fire to cook it with.
